#999: Singapore collar pins!!

MICA is so efficient! Emailed them just this week about sending some collar pins over to me so that I can give them to my new batch of students. The package just arrived! By DHL Express no less. Rock on Singapore!!

Nothing like the red and white and moon and stars to start the patriotism flowing.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inspired by Neil Pasricha's 1000 Awesome Things. This is the SGean in Japan version:

1000 tok kong mee kia

According to the Coxford Dictionary of Singlish, tok kong is defined as such:

TOK KONG
Hokkien term meaning “superb” or “top of the line”.
1. “Check out his DVD player. Tok kong, man!”
2. “Wah lau eh, Ah Lian’s body is si beh tok kong.”

Mee Kia is, similarly, a Hokkien term for 'thing'. Its Chinese equivalent is shi4 qin3 or 事情.

  1. Hello from an outgoing SG JET! May I know how did you even get MICA to send you those collar pins? Cheers! :)

  2. Hi! Congratulations on getting into JET!

The first time i got the pins was when a JET in my batch organised the pin distribution. She came into our orientation with bags of pins, i kid you not.

The next year, since i was running out of SG paraphernalia lol, i emailed MICA telling them about my JET position and what i needed and asked if they could provide any more pins. They came through brilliantly, as you read in my post.

Just asking can do wonders :)

    Good luck!
