Curry, Chilli and Typhoon

Well, my family has finally managed to leave Japan, no thanks to Typhoon 12 which hit Mie-ken starting last Wednesday or Thursday. But more on that later.

Managed to cook some curry for Singapore Curry Day haha. I think you can see it's Japanese Curry though.

Two weeks ago, I attended the Nabari-Nisihi High School English Seminar (despite its name, it's actually more of an English camp) and really enjoyed it. The company was good - I remember great, funny talks with the other ALTs, getting to know new (to me) ALTs, and helping some incredible youths try to improve their standard of English.

The English Seminar was held at the Soni Youth Campsite, which is a FABULOUS place (not so their toilets though) for youth camps. The place is sprawling, and situated at near the top of a mountain that boasts some fun trails. Also, the canteen serves some really yummy food!

In the morning, every single person in the Soni Youth Camp (yes, other groups who are using the campsite too) assemble at the parade grounds to listen to announcements, sing the camp song? or the national anthem, and participate in a really cool morning exercise. I need to get my hands on a recording of the music, but it's similar to what Georgina and I used to do in AHS last time. Hahhaa.

Tried natto at the camp - one of those national food - kinda like durian for Singaporeans - that the locals can't make up their mind about. It's fermented beans. Looks gross, smells gross, tastes a little gross, but it's extremely healthy, apparently.

Me, Thapelo (South African) and Geeta (Trinidadian)

One of the drawings by the students in my group. We were telling a story using pictures. Love the multiple floating eyes hhaha.

My family arrived two days later. So happy to see them!! They brought over almost 20kg of food, including bak kwa, mooncakes, loads of instant noodles (yes Japanese ones are nicer, but they don't have laksa or curry flavour! and they certainly don't have mi goreng style!!) and get this, an ironing board. LOL. So yes, I now can withstand a siege of some sort.

Found this amazing grilled prawn sushi at a sushi place in Nabari. Had a sushi train to serve the food we ordered too!!

We drove to Osaka, Kyoto and around Nabari. They also visited Toba Aquarium and the Iga Ninja Museum which was fun haha. It was quite a squeeze in my tiny apartment, but wow, it was really worth it to return home to people and yummy Singaporean food. My mum brought chilli too!! CHILLI!!! YAY!!! My world is complete now.

5 days into their trip, Typhoon 12 hit Mie-ken. The river was flooded but Nabari was pretty safe. News programmes said most parts of Mie were flooded though, and there were some prefectures that suffered quite badly.

So, seeing as it would be kinda useless to go anyway, we drove around Mie, went to the Shorenji Dam, then to 100 yen shops. LOL. It think we spend quite a few hundred SG dollars in those shops. All the stuff was packed into two huge suitcases to be brought home. Imagine that.

Well then. I'm all alone here again. Sigh.
